Mrs. Elidia F Ortegón

The Elidia F. Ortegón College Grant was established by GPS College Guidance and named in honor of our founder’s mother.

Mrs. Ortegón always encouraged her children, family, and friends to pursue an education. In recognition of her advocacy for education, this grant was created in her honor to help first-generation and underrepresented students get access to higher education.

“La educación, nadie te la quita.” (An education is something that can never be taken away from you.)

Mrs. Ortegón used this phrase often to encourage everyone to pursue an education. She regretted that she had to drop out of high school to help support her family. However, she knew the importance of education and earned her GED while working and raising a family.

Mrs. Ortegón followed her passion and became a successful entrepreneur establishing two businesses in Texas.

GPS College Guidance is delighted to offer this valuable grant to students in honor of the importance Mrs. Ortegón placed on education.
